The Vicious Cycle Of Sin
BIBLE REFERENCES:

Romans 7:15-18 (NIV) “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.”

Romans 7:21 (NIV) “So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.”

Romans 7:24, 25 “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.”

Galatians 5:13, 14 (NIV) “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Colossians 2:8 (NIV) “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of the world rather than on Christ.”

James 1:13, 14 (NIV) “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.”

1 John 1:8 (NIV) “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.”
APPLICATION:

Sin is such an ugly word. We don’t use it much today. We would rather shrug it off as an old fashion, out of date idea that has no relevance for us today. Besides, “who is a position to talk about sin anyway?” – One may argue. Well, I would offer this suggestion - God is! And, God has plenty to say about it. In fact, He wrote the book on sin.

The Apostle John tells us that all of us have sinned (1 John 1:8). That includes you and it includes me. No one is excused, no one has been granted a free pass on this issue. We have all sinned whether or not we even agree on the idea of sin.

The only way to deal with sin in our lives is to humbly accept God’s free gift of salvation – His forgiveness. This He offers to each one of us by way of the cross.

 A PRAYER:

“God, I recognize that I am a sinful person. I also recognize that you have sent your Son Jesus Christ to pay for my sins in full. I humbly accept your free gift of salvation.”
