Sowing And Reaping
BIBLE REFERENCES:

Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

Ecclesiastes 11:1 (NIV) “Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.”

Hosea 8:7 (NIV) “They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.”

Hosea 10:12 (NIV) “Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers righteousness on you.”

Matthew 13:3-9 (NIV) “Then he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop – a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.’”

Luke 6:38 (NIV) “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV) “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:10, 11 (NIV) “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

Galatians 6:7, 8 (NIV) “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
APPLICATION:

Just as there are laws of physics in control, there are also spiritual laws at work. One such law is “sowing and reaping”. As our scripture references point out, we WILL reap what we sow – both positive and negative. Expect it! It’s a law. A pastor friend would often add, “And, you will reap more than you sow - a lot more”. You punch someone in the nose and you will probably get beat up and sent to the hospital!

It seems that both good and bad seed grow equally well in life. Our ambitions, attitudes, desires and motives determine the type of seed we are sowing.
A PRAYER:

“God, help me to choose the best seed so that others may be blessed and I can fully enjoy your benefits.”
