Worry - Soul Poison
BIBLE REFERENCES:

Matthew 6:25-end (NIV) “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 10:17-20 (NIV) “Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”

APPLICATION:

Our Scripture references give us a command from our Lord. Four times in our reference Jesus tells us, “Do not worry”. Note: this is not a suggestion, it is a command! These words from our Lord should be a “heads-up” for all of us Christians who are trying to follow his teaching. Yet, we worry anyway.
We worry about all kinds of stuff. We worry about our families and friends, we worry about our jobs, we worry about our finances, we worry about our health and we worry about keeping up with the neighbors. Why do we do it? The answer is simple; it is easier to worry and fret than it is to really, truly believe what the Bible says.

When Jesus tells us “Do not worry”, he means “Do not worry”. When we disobey what Jesus commands us to do, we sin. It has been said that worry is soul poison. Worry will kill what little faith we have. It is like a valve connected to our “faith reservoir”. Worry turns the valve off so that little or nothing comes out and we are stuck with our worries.
 A PRAYER:

“God forgive me for worrying so much. I know that this worry is hindering my faith and keeping me from finding that perfect place of peace and rest in you.”
