Exodus 13:21 (NIV) “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.”

Deuteronomy 1:32, 33 (NIV) “In spite of this, you did not trust in the Lord your God, who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.”

Psalms 32:8, 9 (NIV) “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.”

Psalm 86:11 (NIV) “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.”

Psalms 119:9, 10 (NIV) “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.”

Proverbs 14:12 (NIV) “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”

Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

Isaiah 53:6 (NIV) “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way.”

John 14:6 “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

APPLICATION:

Back in the late ’60s I was a project engineer working on the Lunar Roving Vehicle (“moon buggy”). I was responsible for the suspension system design. The vehicle was part of NASA’s Apollo lunar exploration program. It was during this time I developed a keen interest in space travel.
It still amazes me to this day how NASA can launch a space craft from earth and send it to some distant planet and be on target every time. Of course, the space craft doesn’t fly there completely on its own; NASA continuously communicates with the space craft, monitors its progress and makes flight corrections along the way to keep it on track.

It has occurred to me that our faith walk in Christ is a lot like the launch of a space craft. Our faith walk is launched at our spiritual birth, for a future rendezvous with our heavenly home. There are many distractions along the way that can easily lead us off track, but God’s Holy Spirit monitors our progress and guides us along the way. He gives us the “mid-course” corrections to keep us on track. He is always ready to forgive our wanderings and get us pointed back in the right direction.  However, we can ignore the corrective commands and end up totally off target.

A PRAYER:

“God, there are so many distractions trying to pull me off course. Give me the wisdom and strength to stay on track.”
