A Teachable Spirit
BIBLE REFERENCES:

Joshua 1: 7 (NIV) “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Psalms 1:1-3 (NIV) “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers“

Proverbs 3:5 (NIV) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

APPLICATION:

A teachable person is a person who is willing to be taught the truth about God; a person who is not only willing to learn about God and his ways but to actually put them into practice and do them.

There are some who totally reject all thoughts and ideas about God. These people do not want to know the truth or anything else about God. Nor, do they have any desire to submit to his ways and plans. They constantly think about their own plans, their own ideas and their own desires. From God’s perspective, these people are un-teachable. God points them in one direction and they choose the opposite. God gives them the truth about life but they prefer to believe something that is more aligned with their own way of thinking.

The Old Testament tells us about a powerful leader of Israel, named Joshua. When Moses died, Joshua took over the leadership role in leading God’s people into the Promised Land. Joshua was personally instructed by God on how to become a successful leader. Read about it, it is one of our reference scriptures (Joshua 1: 7):

How about you, if God were to speak directly to you and instruct you on how to be a success in this life, would you listen to Him? Or, would you discard his advice in favor of your own ideas? The fact of the matter is, God has spoken to each one of us through the Scriptures found in the Holy Bible. Why not read it?

Be smart, learn what God has to say – then do it - and you will be blessed.
