Biblical Truth

You Are One-Of-A-Kind
BIBLE REFERENCE:

Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV) “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Matthew 25:15 (NIV) “To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on journey.”

Acts 12:4 (NIV) “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.”

APPLICATION:

We are as unique as our finger prints. Each one of us has been uniquely designed by God - a unique personality, a unique set of abilities and skills, a unique way of thinking, and a unique way of looking at life. Why? Because God has a unique plan for each one of us!

I am a very analytical person. That is why I chose engineering for my career. I like to design, analyze and test things and logically work out problems. Because of my passion for the analytical, I probably would not make the best sales person for your staff. Should that make me feel bad or inferior? Absolutely not! God has created another role for me that will utilize the skills and talents he has given to me. Someone else will have to be your salesperson.

Sometimes in the church our personality differences can lead to conflicts and frustrations. Some of us are not that outgoing or expressive; we are more analytical and logical in our approach to life. Others are more impulsive. They can whip up more ideas and projects in an hour than I can in a year. Then there are those who love to express themselves through music, song and drama. Yet, another group is more laid-back. They can agree with just about anyone. Their life’s motto would be, “What will be, will be”. We are all made differently (by God!) but we all make up the same body of Christ.
In my early years I would sometimes get frustrated when I didn’t seem to stack up against the talents and outgoing personalities of others in the church. I can’t sing very well, I am not very good at telling stories or good jokes and God knows I can’t preach. However, as I matured in my Faith, I began to realize that God never intended for me to compete with everyone else. He has a specific role for me to play, using the personality and set of skills he has given to me. I have learned to be content in that.

A PRAYER:

“God help me to find my mission and role in life, the one you designed specifically for me. The one that will utilize all of the talents, skills and abilities you created in me. Then I will be fulfilled.”
