BIBLE REFERENCE:

Romans 8:9 (NIV) “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.”

Romans 12:1, 2 (NIV) “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Colossians 3:22-24 (NIV) “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” 

Philippians 4:8, 9 (NIV) “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
APPLICATION: 

Sloppiness is really not a virtue to be praised or admired, especially in the life of a Christian. One thing the Apostle Paul disliked the most was a “Christian” living an uncontrolled, undisciplined life style. After all, we Christians are suppose to be representatives of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 As a representative of Christ, how can I go through life living like every other unbeliever in the world? Where is the distinction, where is the separation? How are others going to be attracted to the gospel of Jesus Christ if all they see in me is the same sloppy and undisciplined thinking, talking and life style they are accustomed to? 

Sloppiness can come at all levels of our life, but it usually starts with our attitudes. Before we know it, our sloppy attitudes spill over into our thinking processes and that affects the way we talk and act. The words from the Apostle Paul instruct us to take the high road of excellence. He instructs us to think on those things that are excellent, praiseworthy and admirable (Philippians 4:8, 9). If my life style, attitudes and actions do not line up with God’s standard (Holy Bible) I need to change my ways. 
A PRAYER:

“God, help me to be a person of excellence, one that you will be proud of. Help me to do this in all areas of my life.”
