Produce Good Fruit
BIBLE REFERENCES:

Psalms 1: 1-3 (NIV) “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”

Matthew 7:15-20 (NIV) “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

John 15:1-8 (NIV) “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. … No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.”

Galatians 5:22-24 (NIV) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.”

APPLICATION:

The Bible compares our lives to a fruit tree or a vine. Whether you like it or not, our lives produce fruit. Sometimes the fruit is good and attractive, other times it is nothing but sour grapes or fruit rotten to the core.
God expects us to produce good fruit. The Bible tells us that the quality of the fruit we produce is an indicator of what is going on inside us (Matthew 7:16). Good fruit reflects the goodness of God working in us. Bad fruit indicates just the opposite.

The Apostle Paul describes the types of good fruit that is expected in the life of a Christian. They include: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22, 23). Only God can produce this fruit. What type of fruit is your life producing today?

I have to be honest; sometimes my fruit is downright sour and unattractive. It is not at all what others would be attracted to and this is something I must repent of and change if I hope to continue as a representative of Jesus Christ.
A PRAYER:

“God, help me to produce only good fruit in my life. Forgive me for the sour grapes I allow to hang on the vine.”
