Choose Your Belief System Well
BIBLE REFERENCES:

Proverbs 1: 7- 9 (LivBible) “How does a man become wise? The first step is to trust and reverence the Lord. Only fools refuse to be taught”

Proverbs 3: 4-8 (LivBible) “If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely, don’t ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God first and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”

Romans 1: 19 (NIV) “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

1 Corinthians 2:10-16 (NIV) “But we know about these things because God has sent his Spirit to tell us, and his Spirit searches out and shows us all of God’s deepest secrets…… But the spiritual man has insight into everything, and that bothers and baffles the man of the world, who can’t understand him at all. How can he? For, certainly he has never been one to know the Lord’s thoughts, or to discuss them with him or to move the hands of God by prayer. But strange at it seems we Christians actually do have within us a portion of the very thoughts and mind of Christ.”

APPLICATION:

If you are mature enough to think and make logical choices you have a personal belief system. Your belief system encompasses your personal world views, your philosophy for living, your ideas about what is right and wrong and your personal thoughts and views about God. This is what governs your motives and actions in real life.
Initially, as a child, our belief system was quite primitive. We were taught what to believe by the key people in our lives - family members, pastors, teachers and playmates. As we matured and started using our own reasoning abilities our belief system evolved into something quite complex. Not all of this evolvement was based on absolute truth. Some of it was based on fraudulent or erroneous claims of others. Some of it was based on erroneous ideas and thoughts brought on by our own passions and desires.

How do you know that your personal belief system is based on absolute truth, especially that part about God? Where do you search for absolute truth? What references do you use?

The Bible makes the stark claim that it is the Word of God. If this is so, it makes logical sense that the Bible would be the source of absolute truth. Have you bothered to read it? Have you bothered to apply its teaching to your personal life? The Bible tells us that each one of us will be held accountable to God for what we choose to believe. It is all about choices, our personal choices. Make sure your choices in life have a solid foundation of truth.
 A PRAYER

“God, clear my thinking so that I can understand and apply your truth to my life. Help me to align my personal belief system to your Holy Word and not accept every idea and belief that comes along, regardless of how religious it sounds.

May my walk of faith be acceptable to you, not deviating to the right or left of your truth.”
